One of the unique memory care programs The Kenwood by Senior Star offers is called Destination Programming. There are 10 distinct stations throughout Memory Care, each with its own theme. Some of the stations we offer incorporate activities surrounding woodworking, cooking, childcare and music, to name a few. Our staff uses Destination Programming to engage residents in meaningful activities and “join the journey.”
Destination Programming promotes cognitive activity and give residents a sense of purpose and fulfillment. This program is most effective for those who are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. When they become confused in the present, staff members guide them to a destination station where they engage in an activity that is familiar. A resident who had a career in business, for example, might be guided to the office station where they can use a computer or typewriter, write letters or just feel the comfort of sitting behind an executive desk.
These stations help residents maintain daily routines that often provide comfort – a vital part of The Kenwood’s approach to Memory Care.
